Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Skillet

This Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Skillet is soft, moist, buttery, and loaded with chocolate chips. 🍌🍫✨ Made with ripe bananas and cooked right in a skillet, it's an easy homemade treat that doesn't require a loaf pan.

The result is a warm, tender banana bread with golden edges and plenty of melty chocolate in every bite. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, an afternoon snack, or a cozy dessert.

Ingredients

- 320 g ripe bananas, approximately 2 large bananas

- 100 g eggs, approximately 2 eggs

- 55 g melted butter

- 60 g white sugar

- 50 g honey, or substitute with brown sugar

- 2 tbsp yogurt or heavy cream

- 45 g milk

- 185 g all-purpose flour

- 4 g baking powder

- 2–3 g baking soda

- 1 tsp cinnamon

- 1 g salt

- 90–120 g chocolate chips or chocolate chunks

How to Make Skillet Banana Bread

1. Prepare the Skillet

Grease a large skillet with a lid, approximately 28 cm (11 inches).

Set aside.

2. Mix the Wet Ingredients

Mash the ripe bananas in a large bowl.

Add the eggs, white sugar, and honey.

Mix until well combined.

Add the melted butter, yogurt or heavy cream, and milk. Mix again until smooth.

3. Add the Dry Ingredients

Add the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.

Gently fold everything together until just combined.

Do not overmix, as this can make the banana bread dense.

4. Add the Chocolate

Fold in some of the chocolate chips or chunks.

Sprinkle the remaining chocolate over the top of the batter.

5. Cook on the Stovetop

Pour the batter into the greased skillet and spread it evenly.

Cover with the lid and cook over very low heat for approximately 40 minutes.

Do not lift the lid during the first 30 minutes, as keeping the heat and steam trapped inside helps the banana bread cook evenly.

After 30 minutes, you can check the bread with a toothpick. If the toothpick comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs, it's ready.

6. Optional Golden Top

For a beautifully golden top, place the skillet under the broiler for a few minutes.

Keep a close eye on it so the chocolate and top don't burn.

Oven Method

If you'd rather use the oven, bake the banana bread at 170–175°C (338–347°F) for approximately 30–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

7. Cool & Serve

Let the banana bread cool slightly before slicing.

Serve warm for the best experience, especially while the chocolate chips are still melty. 🍌🍫✨

Tips for the Best Banana Bread

- Use very ripe bananas for the sweetest and most flavorful banana bread.

- Don't overmix the batter after adding the flour.

- Keep the stovetop heat very low to prevent the bottom from burning before the center cooks.

- Resist opening the lid during the first 30 minutes.

- Add extra chocolate chips or chunks on top for an extra chocolatey finish.

This skillet banana bread is warm, soft, chocolatey, and incredibly comforting, with caramelized banana flavor and melty chocolate in every slice. 🍌🍫🤎
